Inception – 2010 – Christopher Nolan

Indisputably well-produced but it’s nothing more than a solid action flick. Hailed as imaginative, it lacks honest creativity. Hailed as intellectual, it is mundane. Add to that wooden characters that aren’t interesting or convincing and it’s a bit of a dud for Nolan compared to his best movie yet…MementoBill Hill

Body of Lies – 2008 – Ridley Scott

bodyTwo CIA operatives (Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio) create an elaborate proxy terrorist organisation to ensnare a Bin-Laden like terror chief blowing up Europe. This is what the movie should have been entirely about, instead this subplot gets lost in a bombastic and muddled action thriller, that Scott get’s half right. JJ

The Departed – 2006 – Martin Scorsese

Adapted from the original, set in Hong Kong, Scorsese finally bagged an Oscar for his tense portrayal of corruption set in Boston. He nails pretty much everything in this brilliantly written, and acted, thriller. Leonardo De Caprio comes of age and Nicholson proves he is the best actor in America. JJ
