The Bridge – 2006 – Eric Steel

Eric Steel’s documentary examines the post card perfect Golden Gate Bridge as a suicide jumper’s paradise. Does the camera go too far following a jumper plunging to his death? Are such sequences a bridge too far? This is a documentary first about filming taboos and mental health secondly. JJ

  1. I know how desperate the people were who jumped, the hopelessness of those who couldn’t stop them and the miracle of surviving suicide attempts.

  2. I was in San Francisco recently and discovered Eric Steel’s film.

It is deeply shocking and the image of a jumper disappearing beneath the icy water has lingered in my mind’s eye like a bad dream… I feel that it should not have been shown.
