Once more with extreme violence, brutality and provocation Haneke carbon copies his 1997 version this time in the US. He asserts that violence in cinema is essentially an American discourse - hence the remake - the result is a kind of ‘intellectual’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Don’t watch Funny Games for answers or clarity or if you’re not too keen on torture and bloodletting.

I like a dollop of rom-com as much as the girl next door - but watching this felt a lot like eating your own diarrhea. Pieced together around songs from the set list of a Bon Jovi love in, Ashton Kutcher and Emily Friehl take 10 years to hook up. Pass me the toilet roll. JJ
