Assunta is on the last day of her job in a nondescript Italian hotel. Valzer captures all the interlinked events during her final shift and in doing so sets itself up for failure. Everything from match fixing, suicide bombers, stolen identities, prostitution and narcissism is covered in this didactic meandering postmodern tale.

ToG is a clash of the ego versus the superego. Alec Guinness plays a decadent colonel in the Scottish Army who finds himself being replaced by an uptight and refined disciplinarian. The clash of egos is compelling as each man endures humiliation, vindication and tragedy in their pursuit for respect.

A businessman spends his lottery winnings by soliciting a prostitute (Monica Bellucci) to live with him until his money runs out. Blier’s script is complex but captures the false expectations that lay between hope and love. Bellucci is mesmerizing and clearly what God intended women to be.
